Chrysler Repair: Replace fuel pump: does the tank have to be removed?, cam sensor, fuel pump

Question
"ohio" could you please tell me if i have to pull the tank out too change fuel pump. thanks jim

Answer
Can you tell me what model and year of vehicle you are dealing with? How far the tank has to drop depends upon that. Use the "rate the expert" tab to respond.

PS Are you sure it is the fuel pump? The autoshutdown relay instead may be refusing to power the pump because the crank/cam sensor may not be getting its signal(s) to the controller. Listen for the pump for about a second to be jumming when you first turn the key to the "run" position. That is normal. It will power up again when you are cranking it over but you can't hear it then. If there is no sign of life at the pump then that could be a real fault. But don't be mistaken and replace a pump that is perfectly good.
