Chrysler Repair: 1993 Chrysler LaBaron no start, chrysler labaron, camshaft sensor

Question
It cut off going down the road.It not getting no fire to the coil and the fuild pump. We check the shut off relay.what else could it be. thank you Frank

Answer
Hi Frank,
There is one other possibility that you can check: the timing belt may have broken. You can check that out by having a helper crank the engine while you watch the rotor inside the distributor after removing the cap to see that it rotates. If it doesn't then the problem is not the sensor but the timing belt. If it turns then the timing belt has not broken.

Hi Frank,
I suspect that it is the photo-optic sensor in the distributor. If that fails then the shutdown relay will not close as a safety precaution. You can check this out by using the ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave it on" doing this in 5 seconds or less. Then watch the check engine light that remains on to begin to flash, pause, flash, pause, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat to make sure you have the counts correct. Then group the counts in pairs in the order they appeared to form two-digit number which are fault codes that tell what is wrong. The last number will always be 55 which means "end of readout". Probably you will get a code 11 or a code 54 which are codes for that camshaft sensor in the distributor. You can replace it yourself. If you get a different code you can look it up at www.allpar.com/fix/codes.html
Let me know if you need more help.
