Chrysler Repair: 1992 Jeep anti theft. How to disarm?, car wiring diagrams, chrysler cars

Question
Ihave 1992 jeep that the anti theft has activated. It did it once before and I had to tow it to the dealership. is there some way to reset it. (I think my battery had died)

Answer
Hi Carl,
I don't have first hand knowledge or wiring diagrams for the Jeep. The Chrysler cars of that year had a separate theft module located above the glove box. But you can't just pull its plug or it goes into a deeper lock down that requires a readout box to remove.
Is the battery discharged again? That can be interpreted by the theft module as an attempted break-in. So make sure your battery is charged. Once you hook the battery up again try to lock/unlock both front doors to see if that clears the alarm state. If not, then I suspect that the wires from the door lock switches have fatigued at the door hinge area.
If you can locate the theft module (try above the glove box but I really don't know specifically for Jeeps, it might have a 21 pin plug) then look for whether you can find a dark green/orange wire on the plug. Put a pin through the insulation of that wire to touch the center conductor and then use a jumper to ground then unground the pin to a shiny metal structural part of the body. That is replicating what happens when you lock/unlock the door.
That may clear it. Other than that, you could take the trim panel off either door and see what color the wire is at the key lock cylinder. Then look for that wire color at the theft module.
That is how I would handle it if I had the problem. Sorry I don't have specifics and have to extrapolate from the Chrysler Corp.. car  wiring diagrams. If you want to kill the theft feature you can pull the plug on the module but only do that after you have cleared the alarm and have the engine running at the time when you pull the plug.
