Chrysler Repair: Replacing the fuel pump on a J-body LeBaron, rear quarter panel, lower tank

Question
I have a 1990 lebaron coupe 3.0 litre i cant hear my fuel pump come on when i try to start the car it worked fine until one day it was sitting running ran out of gas(i think)  and would not start again anyhoo i want to check the fuse for the pump or the relay or whatever i can do to diagnose the problem but i have no idea where the power distribution center is  any help would be appreciated

Answer
Before you get into changing the pump you could try jumping 12v from the battery to the + post of the spark coil, which is also attached to the fuel pump, as a way of testing whether the pump is working or not (listening for the hum).
If you have to change the pump and therefore lower the tank,
disconnect the battery
remove the screws that secure the fuel filler tube to the right rear quarter panel
raise the rear of the vehicle and put on jack stands
disconnect wiring and hoses from the tank
support tank with a transmission jack or floor jack (use wood spacer)
remove straps and lower tank slightly
remove hose from pressure relief/rollover valve
carefully remove filler tube from tank inlet
lower tank far enough to replace pump.
Remove pump using a mallet and brass drift punch on the lock ring going counter clockwise
use a new o-ring and inlet filter
wipe seal area clean around the tank opening
position pump in tank
use drift and mallet, don't overtighten the lock ring which can cause a leak
reinstall tank
I hope this works out for you.

Hi Rod,
There is no power distribution center on the '90 coupe*, only an autoshutdown relay that powers the injectors, spark coil, O2 sensor, and fuel pump. It is mounted on the left inner fender, and is the forwardmost one of three.
So if that relay is energized (it should do so for 1 second when you turn the key to run position) you will hear the fuel pump run for a second. Then when you start cranking it should click again and remain on until the car starts or you release the key (but you might not be able to hear it click). It could be that you just haven't put enough gas in the tank. Others have found that they have to put in another can of gasoline to get the fuel pressure back to normal.
