Chrysler Repair: NEW YORKER 1991 Fuse #2 keeps blowing anti-theft alarm goes on, wheel drive cars, rear wheel drive cars

Question
Hi Roland
This is a 1991 Chrysler New Yorker with only 34000 miles.
20 October I was driving control panel became black (the one that lights when you turn on the key). It wouldn't start until a guy with cables gave me power from another car's battery.
30 October I was driving the panel became black after 15 minutes of drive. Park open the door anti-theft alarm won't disarm. Unplug the battery verify fuses number 2 had blown. Changed the fuse and could leave after turning the alarm off. OK this time.
10 November Changed the battery, a new one from Chrysler. Used the car 3 times, no problem.
17 November I was driving control panel became black after 15 minutes of drive. Ask an electrician to have a look at the alternator, he says it's ok. Hurry back home. Park the car and think things over.
18 November change fuse number 2 it blows anti-theft alarm starts running unplug the battery verify fuses. Try the old battery. Try to read the computer error codes it only comes out with "battery has been disconnected recently" (12 55).
Wait a while new battery back again plug in fuse 2 start the car, OK but as soon as I go into "drive", fuse 2 blows again anti-theft alarm goes on, unable to disarm it.
Any idea please?
Cecilia

Answer
Hi Cecilia,
Thanks for the generous evaluation and nomination. I am glad to hear that everything is ok again. I looked at the wiring diagram for the front wheel drive New Yorker (you can tell if it is that because the engine will be mounted crosswise rather then along the axis of the car which is the case for rear wheel drive cars of that vintage) and see that there is a 20 amp fuse that supplies the glove box, the interior lights, and the body computer. That last module could well cause the anti-theft alarm to act up if the power to it was interrupted. The only inconsistency is that the fuse in question is #12, not #2, which is why I couldn't relate the #2 fuse to your problem (that one runs the cruise control according to my '91 FWD manual). So maybe the fuse is actually #12 or you do have the rear wheel drive (RWD) car.
No need to write back if there is no other issue at this time.
