Chrysler Repair: 3.0 timing belt replaced, marks line up, no compression?, spark plug wires, exhaust stroke

Question
hello I have 94 lebaron with a 3.0 v-6. the timing belt broke while driving. Currently I have a new water pump on it and now  I put the belt on and the marks are lined up. I want to try to start the car before i put it together but it wont start, the engine turns over very easy and it sounds like there is no compression. if you could help me it would be great, thanks.

Answer
Hi Kevin,
I just realized that what I told you doesn't make sense! I was confusing the error of putting the distributor in position thinking one was at TDC of the compression stroke when really the engine was at TDC of the exhaust stroke. So if I wasted your time, I am sorry.
I am wondering if rather you may have put the distributor in 180 degrees out of phase. So check that possibility. When the timing marks are all lined up, the distributor should go in such that the rotor tip faces the rear of the engine, although the number one wire's socket in the distributor cap in facing the driver of the car. And do recheck the timing marks, it is possible for you to have them lined up when you start putting on the belt and have them move by the time you think you put it on correctly. Check out: www.allpar.com/fix/3liter-timing-belt.html for the procedure to put on the belt.
Also, be aware that the spark plug wires do not go in the distributor cap in the same order as the the engine fires. The #1 wire is positioned as described above, and the order counter-clockwise from there is 1-3-5-4-6-2.
