Chrysler Repair: EGR valve.......possibly, ais motor, dodge shadow

Question
Hello:

I have a 1994 Dodge Shadow.  3.0, V-6, 170,300 mi.  I have this car as just a second car.  Just to drive back and forth to work.  This car works fine, but stalls in cold weather...sometimes.  I thought it was just in humid climate, but tonight it stalled and it wasn't wet, rainy or humid out.  What I have to do to keep it running is keep my foot on the gas for about 30 sec to a minute, then it runs fine, all the way.  Someone told me that it could be the EGR valve.  Is there a way I could disconnect some sensor or something to really see if that is the problem.  It was also told to me that the valve could be stuck or clogged.  The funny thing is, that it is a hit and miss thing.  Sometimes it will stall after sitting for a days work and other times it will start with no problems.

Any suggestions

Thanks

Kevin

Answer
With 170k you gotta believe that it could be just about any thing.I'll  tell you how to test the egr though. There are 2 vacuum lines going to the valve itself. One of them goes to a steel tube to the base of the valve.Connect compressed air to that line.Open the thottle on the throttle body.If you hear a hiss from inside, you have a leaky egr valve. If not you'll have to look elsewhere. You may just have a dirty throttle body which would cause the ais motor to stick.
