Chrysler Repair: Chrysler T&C van 1999: radiator fans dont work, coolant temp, radiator fans

Question
My van continues to overheat even though i replaces the thermoustat and checked the fuse. Is there another fuse in the fan motor itself because the fan is not turning on?

Answer
Hi Brian,
No there is only one fuse, #24 (40 amp) shown in my '98 shop manual. However, if the coolant temp sensor is working (and if it weren't the engine would probably not run well because it needs that sensor to set the mixture based on knowing the proper temp of the coolant) then I would suspect that the fan relay is not working. That relay is located to the left of the fan assembly on the inside surface of the left frame rail, near the bottom left corner of the assembly (where by left I mean the driver's side of the van). That relay, I believe, had a bad history and may have been the subject of a recall by Chrysler. So check the dark green wire at the relay (that wire goes to the fans) once the temp has risen high enough to call for the fans, and see if it has 12V on it. If it does, then there is something wrong with the wire itself not getting to the fan motors or the ground wire from the fans back to a bolt at the relay. If it doesn't have 12v on it then I would believe the relay is bad. You could call a dealer and see if the relay is a recall item or not.  You can check for voltage by probing thru the wire's insulation to touch the conductor inside with a fine pin, and then put your voltmeter between the pinhead and the chassis or - post of the battery.
