Chrysler Repair: ATC code 23 (blend air door) and how to fix: LH cars 93-on, haynes repair manual, chrysler concorde

Question
I have a 94 Chrysler Concorde. I recently bought a Haynes Repair Manual because the heat stopped working. I did the self diagnosis and it came back with the code 23. Code- 23...ATC blend door feedback control.
How do I fix this? I just want my heat to work! Thanks

Answer
Hi Vince,
The blend-air temperature control door is operated by an electrical actuator which mechanically positions the door which mixes warm and cold air for the desired temperature. Either the actuator is broken or the door itself is mechanically binding up. The computer gets feedback as to where the door is positioned and so it can tell when it is not doing its job as directed and sets the code. If the actuator is defective it must be replaced. The actuator is located on the bottom of unit directly over the center tunnel. It is square and has a 5 wire black plug, and it has a socket that meshes with the door shaft. Note the position of the door shaft when replacing the actuator upon assembly to get the same meshing position.
Removal:
Remove left and right silencer under dash panel/ducts.
Remove two screws that hold actuator that are accessible from the right side of the center console.  Remove one screw accessible from the left side. Both are underneath.
Pull actuator straight down and unplug electrical plug.
To install reverse the procedure.
Check whether the door is free to rotate. If it is then the actuator is presumably not working. If the door is sticking, try to free it up, otherwise you may have to remove the unit in its entirety, which is a big job.
I hope this is helpful to you.
