Chrysler Repair: 2.7L oil pressure light flickers at or near idle rpm, 150k miles, light flickers, oil viscosity

Question
2001 Concorde 2.7L 150k miles- Intermittent problem were the oil pressure light flickers.  I'll say flicker because the only time it stays light is when I'm stopped/stoping, seems to happen around 800rpm. This doesn't hapepen every time I drive the car just every few days... I replaced the pressure sensor switch, but problem still occurs.

Answer
Hi Jason,
I would not be overly concerned about the oil pressure light flickering at idle rpm. It may be that there is some wear setting in within the engine that is causing the oil to flow more freely into the bearings, but unless the light stays on continuously when the rpm is over 1,000 would I be concerned that the oil pump was becoming ineffective or the oil level was too low. You can improve the pressure by increasing the oil viscosity by one step (moving to the next higher number than what you are using currently) and that will probably stop the flickering at idle. You can of course have a calibrated gauge measure the pressure in the place of the sensor and compare that to the spec for the engine but at this point my inclination would be to either accept it as normal for a fairly high mileage engine or increase the viscosity one step.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
