Chrysler Repair: Manual Stick Shift/Gas Gauge, lebaron convertible, snail mail

Question
Dear Roland,
Thanks so much for answer.  Car is  93 LeBaron Convertible (ordered through Chrysler; accepted delivery Nov 92).  Stick Shift on raised floor divider between bucket seats.  It is 6 cyl and yes, has 5 forward shifts (didn't try 5th, so forgot to mention it).  Car has only 40,000 miles, so doubt it is bad clutch.  Would appreciate mail, or fax (979) 263-5774.  Snail-Mail: PO Box 730, Weimar, Tx 78962.  Or, if you have scan, attach a copy to email at martinnitram@msn.com.
Thank you, thank you, in advance.  Cable connecting shift lever feels like problem.

Question -
Dear Roland:
Have always had problem w/93 Lebaron stick shift going into reverse.  I am sole owner of car, just now reverse wouldn't engage.  Drove on in 1st thru 4th, felt funny, but went fine.  Once home, tried reverse again, now stick totally loose, no gear engages.
Husband sure it is link from stick to clutch.  Is there a schematic/diagram I can get, of instructions of how to hook back together?
And, since I found this website, My gas gauge no longer works, except occasionally when I fill up.  It will bounce up to full, play for a few seconds, then go back to empty.  Is there an easy part fix, or is the only fix expensive tank removal?
  Thanks in advance for help.

Hi Gerda,
I would be better able to give you specifics on the gear shift problem if you could tell me a little more about the car. Is it a LeBaron Convertible or a GTS Sedan, is the stick shift on the steering column or on the floor, and is it a 4 of 6 cyl engine? Does it not have 5 forward speeds rather than the 4 that you mentioned? I have manuals for '89 and '94 so I will assume the '94 applies to your '93. Both my manuals describe 5 speed stick transmissions, rather than 4 speed? I can postal mail you some xerox copies of the appropriate pages once I know the specifics. Just send me a postal mailing address.
I think the problem is with cables that connect the shift lever to the transmission either adjustment or broken.
On the gas gauge, I can also give you a better idea on how to differentiate between a problem with the float in the tank as compared to something with the gauge once you clarify the model.

Answer
Hi Gerda,
Thanks for the kind evaluation and comments. I did copy and mail the pages, for pick up this afternoon. I hope they will solve the shifting problem for you.
Roland

Hi Gerda,
Thanks for the clarification. There are 4 pages about the gearshift cable connections so I will xerox and snail mail them to you.
On the gauge, you could monitor the dark blue wire at the fuel tank sending unit, or at pin 18 of the black plug of the body computer which is located on the passenger side kick panel (to right of leg). It should read 0-8 ohms when the tank is full, and 100-112 ohms when empty. You could watch it as the tank fills to see if it moves smoothly between those readings on drops back to 0-8 ohms which would indicate the float is defective.
