Answer
Hi Howard,
I doubt that this is a computer problem but it may be. The best way to tell is to have a plug-in diagnostic readout box ask the transcontroller for any  fault codes it may have stored in it memory. There are codes for failed controller (11,13,16,17), and then there are several dozen other codes for driving only in 2nd gear which is called limp-in mode. You may be able to get a free readout at Autozone or other parts stores, otherwise it may cost about $40. Ask what are the code numbers, what do they mean, what are the possible fixes, and how much. Then let me know and we'll compare notes with the shop manual. On the no reverse, noise etc. are you sure that you have the gear shift cable adjusted properly?
What is the warranty on the transmission? You may need to take it back for rebuilding some more. You installed it yourself? If not, then ask the rebuilder do the whole job again.
When you write back tell me the year and model of car.
