Tires: 275/60/18 vs 275/65/18 Follow up question, yokohama geolander, stock size

Question
I am considering the Hankook Dynapro atm 275/65/18 for my 05 landcruiser because the 60's are not avalable. I drive mostly on the road, but about 8 times per year, I travel with a trailer (total weight approximately 2400lbs) up a mountain road that has snow and mud. I read your responses to Mike. What if any, advantages do the 65's have over the 60's based on my example? I was considering the Yokohama Geolander tire that meets the stock size, but the reviews on the Hankooks were very impressing. Thanks for your expertise!

Answer
Pete,

As you are aware, I answer a lot of questions, so I had to look up what I told Mike - and luckily it wasn't too long ago.  If it had been more than a couple of months, I might have never found it.

First, your Landcruiser came with P type tires and the tires you are considering are LT type tires - a completely different animal.  I do not recommend replacing P type tires with LT type tires and vice versa - and to me, this trumps the issue of 60 vs 65 series.

You should be able to find appropriate tires in P type tires.
