Chrysler Repair: Fault code of 42 on 1996 Chrysler, chrysler concord, fuel pump relay

Question
I have a fault code of 42 on 1996 Chrysler Concord.  Can anyone tell me how to repair this problem?

Also how do I delete the error codes stored in the computer?

Answer
Hi Joe.
That ASD relay is in position 4 of the power distribution center under the hood. The 42 seems to say that the relay is shorted to ground so it is active all the time and so a safety aspect is eliminated that would otherwise shut off the relay if the engine dies. You could check to see if  indeed it is has 12V nn the darkgreen/orange wire at the ignition coil, even if the engine is shut down. If so, then the relay is either failed with the points sticking together or the relay coil is in activated position. If that is not the case then it is an old code. You can erase it by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes which will cause the 42 to erase but cause and code 12 (battery disconnected recently). The ASD is supposed to cut the power to the fuel pump relay, the spark coil, and the injectors when the engine dies.
So see what voltage you have on the dark green/orange wire. It should have 12V  for about a second when you turn the ignition key to run. Then when you start cranking it should remain at 12v if the engine starts or barring that if you return the key to off.
