Chrysler Repair: 1998 Cirrus transmission fluid change, transmission fluid change, chrysler cirrus

Question
Hi,

I've read through your past responses on transmission fluids and wanted to confirm some information.  The car is a 1998 Chrysler Cirrus with the V6 engine.

1. Is 41TE the correct transmission model number for this car?
2. Any guidance on getting the correct filter from the dealer?  Do the usually come with the gasket?
3. It appears a Chrysler bulletin says to use ATF+4 in this car now, even though ATF3 was original specified.  Is that correct?
4. Is it OK to use any of the brands on the list of licensed brands at http://www.centerforqa.com/licensedatf4brands.html ?  Valvoline is available locally at a decent price - is that OK?
5. The car has about 170K miles, and I am assuming the fluid is original (I bought it used with about 120K).  I have found directions online to change all the fluid by dropping the pan and filter (first 4 quarts), then reassembling and disconnecting the return line to pump out the other 5 quarts.  Do you recommend this procedure?  For this mileage and age of car and changing to ATF+4, should I just do the 4 quarts?
6. Any tricks or warnings for doing the transmission fluid change on this car?

Thanks!!

Answer
Hi Dec,
The model is correct. You should have not trouble getting the filter and gasket. ATF +4 is correct now days. Yes, any brand as far as I know. As for the change procedure, I haven't seen the two step approach rather using an "exchanger" device. I can xerox a couple of pages from the '99 manual that give all the steps/detail. Let me know a postal mailing address and I will xerox and postal mail them to you.
