Chrysler Repair: horn and lights activate when door is opened: 2001 van, fuse box, computer plugs

Question
In my 2001 caravan the horn and lights go on and off. This started when I got into the van this morning.I have tried many combinations of the keyless remote. The battery has just been disconnected to see if something will reset.

thanks

Answer
Hi Matt,
I don't have a manual that covers van's that are as new as yours. But based on earlier models it appears that the anti-theft alarm is being triggered when you open the door. The trick is to get it to disarm. About the only way I know to do that is to use the door key to lock and then unlock either the driver's door or the passenger's door. If that doesn't clear the armed status then there is either a malfunction of the wiring from the doors to the body computer under the dash near thr fuse box some sort of electrical gremlin involving the body computer which is where the theft system is located. It is under the dash, behind the fuse box. I would check the plugs of the body computer to see if they are wet, dirty, or corroded and if necessary use some electronic contact cleaner from a spray can to clean any suspected crud. If that doesn't clear the armed state, then I would look for a dark green/orange wire on one of the body computer plugs. That is the wire that comes from the door key locks. If you put a straight pin thru the insulation of that wire and then use a jumper to ground/unground the pin to any nearby structural metal surface, that will replicate the disarming function.
I hope that one of those sever approached will work for you.
Please let me know how this works out.
