Chrysler Repair: 93 chrysler lebaron charging system, powertrain control module, chrysler lebaron

Question
the altenator went out so i replaced it under code 41 the voltage guage in the dash says it was charging so took it for a drive got 1 mile down the road and the gauge dropped way down so it appears to have fried again. is there anything else wrong that can be fring the altenator out so fast? thanx in advance your answer is much appriciated.

Answer
The regulation of the altenator is controlled by the powertrain control module.  I suspect that it might be bad causing repeated failure of the altenators OR what you PERCEIVE to be failed operation of an altenator.  See if you can find a junk one from a salvage yard and replace it before you put in yet another altenator.  You may even want to take your original back and have it tested if you didn't have to turn it in as a core.
