Chrysler Repair: 2001 Chrysler Town & Country front HVAC blower motor replacement, torque application, flat head screw

Question
The blower motor on my Town & Country is in the process of failing and I would like to replace it myself. I've tried to remove the motor but there is one screw in the back of the housing which I can not get to. Since the screw head faces upward removing from the underside is impossible. I have removed the  cover that is in front of the dash in hopes of gaining access to the screw thru the speaker opening but no luck. I have a Chilton manual for the van but it just simple says to remove the three screws and remove the motor. Can you please advise me on what needs to be done to remove the motor. Thanks

Answer
I've not had the pleasure yet to replace one of these motors since it's the newest body style.  However, according to the service manual destructions... errr instructions, they say remove the HVAC housing first.

To me this doesn't sound logical for a simply blower motor replacement.  I know in various makes and models in years past it's not been alot of fun to get them out but I would use a 1/4 inch air ratchet, 1/4 socket and a phillips head bit similar to what you would find in those one size fits all screwdriver sets.  Squeeze that up in there and pull the trigger and it starts backing it out.  However, you may not have a phillips or flat head screw.  It could be torx (star shaped) or even just a 6 point screw, normally 8mm.

If air tools aren't an option I would look in to any combination of 1/4 drive universal joints, the sockets and a simple ratchet.  In addition I beleive there are semi-regular ratchets out there now with a twist section that allows torque application without actually turning the ratchet in it's normal manor.  It works more like a ratchet with a wing-nut on the end.  This may help in close corners.

I'm new here so I don't know what all we can do here but if you can take a picture or two of the blower motor I'll see if I can remember a bit more.
