Chrysler Repair: Transmisson codes 1998 sebring, solenoid pack, clutch slippage

Question
I have a 1998 Sebring that is giving four codes. Can you give an answer of what can be going on.

P0700
P0700PD
P0733
P0734

Answer
Hi D. Baker,
The 0700 means there are other fault codes stored in the trans controller and that the malfunction indicator lamp has come 'on' sometime in the recent past. I am not sure how that differs from the 0700PD.
0733 and 0734 mean that there is some clutch slippage detected in both the 3rd and 4th gear speed of the trans. If could mean either that the problem is in a solenoid pressure switch in the trans, or it could mean the the clutches used in those two gears are slipping and then a rebuild is needed. However a malfunctioning solenoid pressure switch in the transmission solenoid pack box which is much easier and less costly than a rebuild is possible when you get the 733 and 734 together. So I would shop around for a trans shop that is familiar with the Chrysler automatic transmisssions and discuss with them the wisdom of first doing some inpection of the trans pressure switches, hoping that finding and correcting such a possibility is all that is needed at this time.
