the colder out side the less it dose it now that we are in the 80's it will only go about 10 miles before it starts in
a shop told me it was a sencor by the bellhousing on the side of the transmission but will not tell me the name of it is they want $300 to fix it they told me it is only a $30.00 part

Answer
Hi Joel,
While I am not highly knowledgeable about the electronic transaxle sensors, this is the first time I have heard of such a sensor that might be involved the symptom you describe. The only sensor located near the bell housing is the turbine speed sensor and it is quite easy to remove and replace (not a $300 job). I have to also question why it should be the source of the symptom. To me it would be more likely related to the cooling system for the transmission fluid (tubing, pump, heat exchanger). You might want to examine the air pathway thru the grill of the car by placing a light behind the radiator in the engine compartment and seeing if you can see it well or if there is a buildup of leaves, dirt, etc on the fins of the heat exchanger or radiator which may be causing the inability of the transmission to operate in hot weather or for extended times in cooler weather without overheating of the trans fluid.
If the shop that you have dealt with is not a transmission shop that has a lot of experience with the Chrysler electronic transmissions then I would suggest going to another transmission shop or a Chrysler dealer. The transmission has the ability to recognize faults in its operation, characterize them by code numbers stored in its memory and allow its memory to be read with a Diagnostic Readout Box II to inform the mechanic of the fault. While the specific repair is not always unambiguous, it is an aid to correcting malfunctions. So you might inquire about whether the memory of the trans controller was readout by the first shop or not, and what code number(s) were observed. Let me know of any codes that you learn of in the future and what you were told that they mean and what the proposed repair and cost is.
