Chrysler Repair: security system may have car in hard shut down, chrysler dealership, engine controller

Question
My security system went off when I opened the door with the key.  I locked and unlocked again with no luck.  I finally had to unhook the battery to quite the horn and the neighbors.  After re-hooking the battery, the set light went back to blinking.  I removed the fuses for the system.  Nothing.  I replaced them and unlocked and re-locked both doors and finally the set light quit blinking.  The car still won't start.  The set light comes on when I turn the key.  As I read your past answers, you say the car has to be running to unplug the security system.  How do I get the car running?
Hopefully you can help me.
Thanks
Sarah

Answer
Hi Sarah,
I may be wrong but it could now be the case that the engine controller is in a "hard" lock out configuration from which it can only be revived with a Chrysler diagnostic readout box. This happens when you deal with a false alarm in a manner as might be expected were you actually a thief. The controller really shuts down the engine.  On the other hand, it could be a faulty ignition key reminder switch (the one that rings a bell if you forget to remove the key) or a faulty starter theft relay. I have only limited recources about the theft system, unfortunately. But how the system can be reversed may depend upon the year and model of your vehicle, which you didn't mention in your question.
Because of my lack of experience with this sort of problem I would recommend calling a Chrysler dealership and ask to speak with the service manager. Tell him the history and ask what you might do to get the engine to start and run again. When you say the car 'won't start' do you mean the starter motor won't crank the engine, or that it will but that the engine will not catch and run on it own at all, or for just a few seconds and then shut down? Which of those behaviors may be revelatory of the status of the system so give clarification about that.
If you write back tell me the year and model.
