Chrysler Repair: Noise when turning steering wheel, 95 LeBaron, lebaron convertible, loose bolt

Question
I have a 95 Lebaron convertible.  Never had any problem with it till now.  I have 84000 miles on it and it developed a noise when I turn the wheel.  It sounds like a spring ready to go.  I have an axle cover replaced on the driver side because I hit it in a car wash.  Can you tell me if I need to have this checked?  The gas station told me that the axle was allright.

Answer
Hi Mary Jane,
The only springs 'proper' are the suspension springs which usually are not going to be making a sound just due to turning the steering wheel. It might just be a loose bolt(s)
on the power steering gear that are creaking. Because steering is so important I would be inclined to go to a stand-alone wheel alignment and frame shop (not a tire store) where they specialize in suspension repair and adjustment and ask the manager to listen to the sound and give you an opinion on what is the cause, what would repair it, what is the cost. You might be able to get this for no cost. Then write me back and I can discuss that with you if you aren't convinced that what you were told makes sense.
