Chrysler Repair: 97 Voyager 3.3 starts but dies within 4-5 seconds, amp fuse, clock spring

Question
Hello Roland,
This question was posted before by other user but without error codes. I have checked for my error codes and it reads. 12 66 66 55. The problem is: The car will start but it will shut down after few seconds. This problem is intermittent and usually goes away after some time on its own. However, this time it has been a whole day and no luck. The odometer and trip are not displayed. Also, the other gauges like speed and fuel, etc are not moving when I start the car.
The car was running fine before this happened and it runs fine when it goes away.
Some background..The steering wheel clock spring was replaced and the ignition cylinder was also replaced some time ago.

I have checked all the fuses and they are - good.
Not sure what to do with this issue. Few mechanics have looked at it when the car was running but could'n find the source.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Wesley

Answer
Hi Wesley,
There are a couple of possible reasons for what is going on. The start and prompt shut off mimics what happens when the anti-theft system has been alarmed when in the armed status. If you have been using the anti-theft system it may be alarming on its own. The disarm should occur by using the door key to lock then unlock the front door or by using the remote entry if you have one of those. It might also be due to a disconnection of the power supply to the body computer which is part of that anti-theft system. You mentioned that you have checked the fuses. Does that include the fuses in the long narrow box behind the battery in the engine compartment that is called the power distribution center? If not, then I would look in that box for a 10 amp fuse at positon #10 and verify it is not blown or has a subtle crack in its conductive wire, and similarly check #2 under the dash. If the body computer loses its power supply the engine controller may treat it as if there is a theft in progress.
On the codes, I am a little suspicious about a double 66; usually a code number is shown only once. So re-read those again to be very sure that is what you have there. A 66 means that either the body computer or the trans computer is not getting its digital data to the powertrain controller (which may be due to a loss of power supply that I conjectured of above) or due to a real problem with the data wires or the function of either of those two units. So I think you may make some progress by verifying the code and checking the fuses, and try disarming the anti-theft using the door lock/unlock by key approach.
Let me know of any progress. I am going to be "maxed out" because I have to be away from my computer and references for the next 4 days, but you can reach me before tomorrow by using the "rate and thank" tab where you will find a space for comments. I get an alert when one of those messages is received, and I will write you back if I get it soon enough.
