Chrysler Repair: Rubbing Noise front end, chrysler sebring convertible, differential gears

Question
Recently purchased a 97 chrysler sebring convertible and in the front end it sounds like something is rubbing.  Have had the tires replaced, rotors brake shoes and there is no bounce or pull in any direction.  Does not cause drivability problems but there is a humming noise like the engine idle is really high and has been checked no problem.  I just purchased my car and like it but concerned about this noise.

Answer
Hi Tanya,
The only things I can think of are that the radiator fan is running all the time (which it will do when the AC is in use) or a wheel bearing is beginning to breakdown and that starts with roughness of roller surfaces that produce a low roar which increases with speed and also may sound louder when you turn the steering wheel to make a turn in one direction of the other. It is little difficult to detect at rest because the drive shafts and the differential gears in the transaxle are always connected to the wheels so that when you jack it up and try rotating the wheels to feel for roughness the other running gear is going to also make some noise and some vibration. But that is about all I can imagine that would make a rubbing sound. Have you had a mechanic at a front end alignment shop go for a drive and see if he hears anything that can be identified?
