Chrysler Repair: ignition switch, haynes manual, spare key

Question
My 2000 concord 2.7L engine has a problem with the ignition switch not wanting to switch. It is like it is the wrong key...will not rotate any. Could you tell me what to look for. Is the key or lock wore out or what else could be the problem.

Answer
Hi Landon,
My collection of manuals does not include models as new as the 2000. However these parts don't change that often so my '94 Concord shop manual and the 93-7 Haynes manual may be of help. The key and cylinder not only operates the ignition switch but also the safety interlock cable connection between the lock and the steering wheel and the gear shifter (which also varies whether you have a column shift or a floor shift). So it could be a worn key or lock cylinder, or it could be a matter of adjusting or replacing the interlock cabling. It is too complicated and lengthy a procedure for me to type anything helpful to you. But if you would like I can xerox the pages that describe it and postal mail them to you. So let me know where to send it if you want them. In the meantime, have you tried a spare key to see if it operates the lock any better? If so, then I would get the spare key copied so you will always have a working key, if that is your problem.
