Chrysler Repair: 2000 dodge caravan starting help!, head gasket leak, pulley bolt

Question
I have a 2000 dodge caravan and when i go to start it it clicks once but it wont turn over. I have replaced the starter and still nothing. The battery is fine and now im stumped. The relay is fine i just dont have any idea as to what is going on. Any suggestions would be of great help. thanks

Answer
Hi Vincent,
By 'clicks once' do you mean the soft click from the starter relay or the loud click from the stater motor solenoid switch mounted on the starter motor? If it is the loud click then I wonder if there might be something that is preventing the crankshaft from rotating such as it being hydro-locked due to a head gasket leak or because the torque converter lock-up clutch is still engaged. You could try seeing whether the crank pulley bolt can be rotated by putting socket and handle on it and rotating clockwise as viewed from the front of the engine.
If it is the relay only, then the power supply wire from the relay to the solenoid may be 'open' so check for whether 12v gets to the brown wire at the starter solenoid switch.

PS Sorry for the delay but I just found your question in the pool to which it had been referred by Kevin. Please 'rate' my answer. Thank you.
