"im working on a 97 sebring convertible 6 cl
i have installed a new water pump and timing belt
when i realigned all timing marks it will not run
it sounds like the valves are all open and has no compression its very ez to turn over

also it is getting gas and spark";
Answer -
Hi Marc,
The preocedure for installing the timning belt on that engine is tricky to get the timing marks to line up, as I look at the shop manual for it. So I suspect something has slipped when you put the belt over the pulleys, or maybe the tensioner isn't doing its job. I can xerox and snail mail you tha page or two on the subject from my '96 manual if you can wait for it to be delivered by the post office. So check the timing marks again and I suspect they will not be aligned, unfortunately.

i have put it on the marks more then one time  and rotate the crank twice to see if it stays in line and still spins free like no compression
i have looked at a manual at auto zone (hanse)it was no help
the mark are in line also have taken off intake removed plug#1 check for tdc

could all the valves be stuck up?

Answer
Hi Marc,
I don't know why that would be the case. Did you take the old belt off as a preventive measure or did it break while you were driving? Even if the latter, the valves and pistons are supposed to be 'non-interference' so they shouldn't have been damaged if the old belt broke while driving. But you could either check the compression on the front three cylinders that are more accessible with a  gauge or remove the valve covers and observe the motion of the valves to verify that is normal. I can't think of anyother thing to do beyond that. Let me know if I can be of further help.
