Chrysler Repair: 99 Concorde Transmmision, dipstick tube, chrysler brand

Question
Hi I have a 99 Concorde 2.7L with 95K on the clock.  The Car takes a long time to change up gear, from 1st to 2nd it has to be going over 40mph and only changes to 2nd when I lift my foot off the gas, to get into 3rd I have o do the same going over 60mph..  Th engine fault light is on and it's showing fault p0700. Do you have any idea what would cause this?

Thanks,

Eddie

Answer
Hi Eddie,
The P0700 means that the trans controller has store a fault code in its memory, but it is not accessible except with an external code reader. So that is comforting to know but still not helpful. I would begin by verifying that the fluid level is in the proper range on the trans dipstick. If low add only Chrysler brand fluid via the dipstick tube.
On the basis of your description I suspect it is an hydraulic problem, not a mechanical issue which is better, if true, because those can be repaired without removing the transmission. For example, the filter could be clogged or the pump not up to producing the pressure necessary to actuate the clutch solenoids. So I would recommend getting a readout of the trans memory for stored codes, ask what they mean, what is the repair and how much it will cost. Then if you like write back and we'll compare notes with what my Chrysler shop manual for the trans says about it. You might also ask if the the cost of the readout would be applicable to the repair bill if you opt to have it repaired at that shop?
