Chrysler Repair: key fob, chrysler cirrus, 1995 chrysler cirrus

Question
How do you program the key fob for a 1995 Chrysler Cirrus? Can I program this myself or does it have to be done by a dealer? If I can do this myself, can you give me the programming sequence?

Thank you,
Jack

Answer
Hi Jack,
As best I can tell ('96 Cirrus shop manual) the diagnostic readout box is needed to communicate with the remote keyless entry function of the body computer. So as each fob is different I believe that it has to be introduced to the system via that readout box which is only likely to be available at a dealer. In '94, on the LH series cars with the anti-lock brake system, there there is a traction control module whose plug is used to ground a wire of the remote keyless entry module (a separate unit on the dash) and that does allow one to program a new fob into the system. I believe though that by '95 with the introduction of the Cirrus the keyless module was absorbed into the body computer module and that is when the ability to do this yourself ended. I don't have the '95 shop manual so I can't be absolutely certain. But that is my best understanding.
