Chrysler Repair: concorde electrical trouble, control panal, diagnostic capability

Question
Hi Roland, have a problem with a 99 Concorde LXi.  I do the key back and forth thing and get a trouble code of 1493 (Ambiant or battery temp sensor). The check engine lite is on and the battery lite is also on.  The cruise control does not work nor does the air conditioner.  I did the test on the control panal and it came back with a code 25 (ambiant air temp sensor too)  Overhead diplay where it should show the outside temp shows "OC".   Does this mean open circuit?  I replaced the body control module with no results.  Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,  Dave

Answer
Hi Dave,
The ambient temp sensor is used by the overhead to display ambient temp, but I don't know if it has anything to do with the A/C or the cruise control (the former maybe, the latter very doubtful). The powertrain diagnostic manual I have doesn't show exactly where the sensor is located but on early 90's Chryslers it was under the front bumper mounted on a cross member underneath the radiator. It has a two wire connector (violet/light green and dark blue/gray) so that will help you to ID it. It is a cylindrical shaped sensor with the plug-in on one end. I would check the resistance of the sensor across its terminals which should range from 30k to 10k with temps from 32F to 77F. If that looks o.k. then the former wire goes to pin 5 of the bone color  connector at the body control module and latter wire goes to pin 10 of that same connector. So do those tests.
On the AC it may have some self-diagnostic capability if it is a automatic temp control unit (let me know if that is the case) otherwise have you had it checked for refrigerant pressure at an AC shop (too low a pressure will defeat the compressor, etc). On the cruise control I have the '98 manual and there are about 22 pages on that subject system which would probably be useful for you to have. I can xerox and snail mail them to you if you would reimburse me for copy costs (4 cents per side) plus postage. Let me know you postal address and I'll send them to you and then you can mail me back a few stamps to cover the costs.
I am interested to learn that you could get a readout with your ignition key. Was it the usual on-off-on-off-on, and where did it read out (on the odometer?) I thought that ability disappeared in '98.
