Answer
Hi Keith,
It wasn't clear to me whether this happened once right after the refill or happens regularly. Once might have been related to the trans not having fluid presure all around after the drain procedure. But if this is a regualar grinding sound that is very troublesome for it bodes breakdown in the near future. If the sound were scraping, clicking, or knocking then that might be the torque converter on the front of the trans rubbing on the housing, a lesser serious condition but which might cause the removal. These electronic transaxles are unfortunately very expensive to rebuild (near $2000) and so it is difficult to justify repairing them on a car that is 15 years old. If there is internal debris in the drain pans that is the result of such grinding and bodes poorly. Because it was recently flushed that is probably not warranted. But maybe the shop that did the flush job could be asked to drop the pans and inspect, but save and reuse the fluid if there is no debris.
