Chrysler Repair: 1999 Intrepid blower, excessive friction, fan blower

Question
I have a problem with my heater blower, it only works on high speed. I read another question reguarding the same thing and you thought it was the resistor. I changed mine and it did work for a week but now it is only high speed again. How would I find the problem. Thanks

Answer
Hi Brent,
Because it apparently failed so quickly I would begin by looking at the two failed units to see if they failed similarly, and if not maybe you can replace the bad part in one with a good part in the other. But still is the question of why it fails. I would suspect that the blower motor may be at fault in drawing too much current. You might also want to check that the dark green power wire on the plug-in is not shorted to any one of the other four wires coming to the resistor block (thus by-passing the motor) which would likely cause a failure. Check the fan blower/motor as to whether it rotates freely or instead that the bearing has excessive friction, or that the blower is rubbing on the housing. If everything seems o.k. then it may require buying a new blower motor.
Please let me know what you find out about some of these possibilities.
