Answer
Hi Donna,
The remote keyless fob uses a lithium battery like in watches. You should see a round removable lid on it and the battery # is engraved on it. I believe it will be a #2025. You can get one at any electronics store.
The anti-theft system doesn't prevent the starter from cranking over the engine, but rather it will kill the idle function in a second after you start it. So if the starter motor isn't doing its job I would suspect the car battery needs a charge up, and unless you can determine its age from the sticker on the battery you may have one that is at the end of its useful life. But try charging it first.
I suspect that if you will just lock the doors by using the latch buttons or the key itself (rather than to lock it using the electrical locks or the remote) that you can then merely open the door with key in the future. That way you won't activate the theft system so you won't have to worry about getting in a fix where the car treats you as if you are a thief. Just don't store anything valuable in it.
If you get a lock down situation. Just lock and unlock a front door using the remote and that should clear the lock down situation. These are troublesome systems and get worse as the car ages and wires break.
So use the tried and true mechanical key and mechanical locks buttons. Becareful though because and electrical switch inside that says door locks is going to set the system up for anti-theft. If there are not individual door interior locks then only lock it from outside with the key to defeat the anti-theft system.
