Chrysler Repair: 97 Chrysler T&C cooling fan, self tapping screws, inner fender

Question
the fan's will not run, even when the temp is hot or when I turn on the A/C.  But if I hard wire the fan's to the bat. they work.  I though it was a relay but for the life of me I can't find it.  I checked the relay box under the hood and it is not there. I also looked under the dash and it is also not there.  Where is the relay for the cooling fan's?

Answer
Hi Edith,
Another owner of a van wrote me with the following info on the relay location and history:
"The relay is on the frame rail, next to the bottom of the radiator, on the driver's side. These were subject of a recall because they came from the factory with little plastic rivets holding them in, and the rivets sheared, breaking the ground connection. Replacement relays come with two hex-head, self-tapping screws to secure. Even after the recall and the factory upgraded to the screws, however, these relays were unreliable in the 96-00 generation minivans. There are two ways to replace the relay: from above and from below. In either case, I recommend removing the air filter box and air silencer box for better access and visibility. The whole job takes about 20 minutes of your time, and I've seen the relays priced between $35 and $50."
So I hope this is of help to you.

Hi Edith,
I am limited to the Haynes manual for 96-9 which shows the circuit diagrams but not the specific location of the fan relay. However it is neither in the power distribution center nor the fuse block under the dash. I suspect that it is mounnted on the inner fender shield under the hood on the drivers side because that is the general area for relays before the pdc came into practice. But it could also be on the fire wall or the right side inner fender shield. So look around the perimeter of the engine compartment. Also check fuse 4 in the PDC. The relay will have the following wires: gray, light green/ dark blue, dark green, and black.
Let me know where it is when you find it, please.
