Chrysler Repair: 1993 Chrysler Town & Country AWD 3.3cid, negative battery cable, intake plenum

Question
Can the wires to the alternator be disconnected from the  top of the engine? Can the alternator itself be replaced from the top of the engine compartment?

Answer
Hi Matthew,
There is a 12-step procedure that is necessary to remove the alternator which I will type in, but there are a couple of drawing that may help make sense of this. It is shown in the Haynes manual as well.
Disconnent negative battery cable.
Remove alternator drive belt (you have to remove the right side splash shield after raising that side on a jack, then rotate the belt tensioner clockwise to release belt tension).
Loosen but do not remove the NUT on the support bracket at the exhaust manifold (on the port for cylinder #3 exhaust)
Remove the alternator tensioner/power steering bracket bolt (this is the other one associated with the support bracket).
Remove the tensioner stud nut and tensioner
Remove the alternator mounting bolts
Remove and position the power steering reservoir from the
alternator mounting bracket. Do not remove the hoses from the reservoir.
Remove the three alternator support bracket bolts.
Remove the intake plenum-to-alternator mounting bracket bolt
Remove alternator support bracket
Position alternator and remove the wiring
Remove alternator
When reassembling, tighten mounting bracket bolts to 50 foot pounds.

If you want the drawings, send me a postal mailing address and I'll xweox copy and mail you the 2 pages from the shop manual.
