Chrysler Repair: 1990 Convertible power window regulator, chrysler lebaron, lebaron convertible

Question
I think my 1990 Lebaron convertible's driver side rear window has a
regulator problem. The switch works and I can hear the motor
working, but the window isn't moved. I can push the window down
or pull it up by hand, and it falls a little bit when I pull it all the way
up, so it is by no means frozen in one position. Is this the regulator
mechanism? How much is the part? How much would labor run me?

Answer
Hi Carl,
While I own an '89 LeBaron it is a coupe with a fixed rear quarter window. I have let the convertible owners in the Yahoo group I participate in share their knowledge about the power quarter window replacement. I have '89 and '94 manuals that show how to replace the regulator which involves removing the interior panel that is under the window. According to an '88 parts manual that I have there are two cables (upper and lower, same number 4445 418) that connect the motor to the window but I can't be sure that is the same set up for the '90, so you should check that out at a dealer. It is a few hour effort, and there is a website that shows how it is done:

So if the motor is good and the cables are the problem it might not be too expensive, part-wise. You might want to do the job yourself because it will probably not be the last time you will need to do this task. It is important to keep the drains open that are below the window. Feel for a rubber flap along the underside of the body, in front of the rear wheel. Make sure the drain hole protected by the flap is not blocked. That way damage to the motor itself can be minimized.
If you want to ask questions of other convertible owners you could join the Yahoo Autos group called The Chrysler LeBaron Club which I co-moderate.
