Chrysler Repair: gear box pressure, chrysler lebaron, pressure ports

Question
Hello my friend. My Chrysler LeBaron '84 has this problem of slow acceleration and some people told me that it could be from the oil pressure in the gear box.I don't have any manuals on this car and I can't check this info so I would appreciate if you give me this figure. What should be the pressure of the oil in the  gearbox of Chrysler LeBaron '84? ThanX!

Answer
Hi Miro,
There are about 7 different pressure ports on the 3 speed automatic transmission, which is the one I presume you are inquiring about, and those ports have different readings depending upon the shifter position and the rpm. If by slow acceleration you believe that there is slippage in the torque converter or the internal clutches, then a set of readings of the pressures may well be in order to do. So I would suggest that if you have the gauge necessary to read the pressures and the inclination to check them, let me know and I'll send you the info from either the '83 of '85 shop manual. Alternatively a readout at a Chrysler dealer or a competent independent shop is the way to evaluate the hydraulic and mechanical function of your trans. I would avoid a nationwide franchise shop as these are 'geared' to rebuilding as the first option, which may be too costly for your age of vehicle.
