Question   Cruise control and traveller/navigator aren't working on car we just purchased.I am curious as to whether these two problems could be related? I can hear the cruise control under the hood click on and off when I press the on/off switch located on steering wheel. That is all I get. Doesn't seem to be a vacuum leak. rear defrost might not be working light just flashes on and then off.
Answer   Hi Doug,
I don't see any common wiring between these two components.
For the cruise: check for blown fuses (#10 and 15). Check the centrer high mounted stop lamp to see that no bulb is burned out. Check that there is vacuum at the servo.
check that the cable from the servo to the throttle is connected. Check that the brake lights switch isn't too close to the pedal so that it is coming on by itself. If all those check out, then the wiring needs to be checked, and also check that the neutral safety switch is working so as to prevent starting the car other than in Neutral or Park. As a last recourse change the servo.
What do you mean about the Navigator not working? Not illuminating or not displaying any data or ?
The rear defrost control switch has a relay built in to it and that might not be holding its position. You might have to find a new switch or a used one at a wrecking yard. There are three pages in the manual that tell about the defogger system and how to test it. Let me know a postal mailing adress and I'll copy and postal mail it to you.

Hi Doug,

I got your message, but unfortunately the way the site is set up unless I know the title and/or date of the initial exchange I am unable to reconstruct what the history is. My archive just shows those bits of info, not by name of questioner unless I open up all the messages until I chance on one from you. So,  can you tell me the title and date of your question? I'll send you what you need then.

Roland

-Today I asked you about the Lebaron the navigator does light up but shows a zero reading on mph and .6 on kms. The rear window defrost doesn't work changed switch with another used one cuts out right away. Am getting a negative polarity on both sides. If you could give me a few more things to try I would appreciate it.------------------------

Answer
Hi Doug,
I copied and put into the mail this afternoon the pages I mentioned that would be helpful about the defogger and the Traveler/Navigator. It wasn't that much of a cost to get them and send them as it all went for the one ounce rate. So don't bother reimbursing me, it costs more to mail it than the amount you would be sending I suspect. Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Doug,
I think the best way to help is to send you the pages on the defogger from the '90 shop manual, and also to send you the wiring diagram for the navigator. I suspect with the latter that it is either an internal problem in the Navigator (like an electrolytic capacitor that has opened up and you might spot that as a wet spot on the circuit board) or a poor connection of one of the serial data bus twisted pair wires that brings the data for the Navigator to process and display. I have your address from you evaluation response and so I'll copy and mail it to you.
If you can easily send me back a US dollar or so that would be appreciated, but is not necessary. My return address will be on the envelope.
