Chrysler Repair: 1999 Intrepid blower fan/resistor block, chrysler dealership, blower fan

Question
Just yesterday, the heater blower fan on my Intrepid quit working on all speeds except high.  I noticed from a previous answer, you have suggested the resistor block is in need of change.  Is this correct?  If so, can you tell me where it is located, what i can anticipate when doing the job and what the approximate cost would be to buy the part at a local Chrysler dealership?  Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Answer
Hi Mark,
Yes the resistor block is the likely cause of the loss of the lower speeds. It is located in the air duct near the blower motor under the dash. To reach it you remove the lower right underdash panel which gives you access to the heater/ac unit. The panel may just remove by being pulled down but check for fasteners before pulling down and note how it is fitted at the left hand end. Then you should see wires (a twisted pair from the blower to the resister block, and several other wires from the fan control to the resistor block). Detach the plugs. Then look for a couple of screws on the block module (the resistors are hidden inside the duct) which when removed will allow the entire resistor block to come out of the duct. I don't know the cost of it, but a call to the local dealer will tell you if it is worth trying to get one from a wreck at a local pull-it-yourself yard or not.
