Chrysler Repair: Hesitation on start, throttle position sensor, variable resistor

Question
Hello Roland,
It's me again with a different problem.
My daughters Chrysler 2000 Concord hesitates when she presses the gas petal as when pulling out into traffic. She has to be real careful as she is afraid it will die on her.
Could you tell me what the possible causes this may be?
Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hi Landon,
I think one possibility is the electrical unit on the throttle body called the throttle position sensor which might have a open or "flat" spot in its variable resistor. But it would be worth trying to get a code readout for any faults stored in the memory of the controller for a clue. Try turning the ignition key: on-off-on-off-on within 5 seconds and then watch the check engine light to start flashing, pause, etc. Count the number of flashes between each pause. More likely though is that rather than the check engine light flashing,  a P---- number may appear in the odometer or trip section of the speedo unit. If neither happens then you will need to get the controller readout at a shop (might cost $40) or sometimes I am told a parts store (Autozone) will do it for free. If you get code number(s) of some sort let me know and we'll go from there. Also, tell me which engine is in the car.
