I have a 93 Chrysler New Yorker with a 3.3 liter engine.  What is the best way to put on the alternator belt.  There seems to be no room to get ones hands down in there to make the belt loops and work the tensioner.  Richard

Hi Richard,
I am sorry to say I don't have experience with that engine/car combination. In fact, I have the '94 Chrysler manual and the '93-'97 Haynes manual and one says there is a single serpentine and the other says there are two separate belts. Neither mentions the difficulty of doing the job. Is there any chance that the panel in front of the engine might be removable so as to give you more room?
Roland

Answer
Hi Richard,
If that fender well is metal and welded in place, then about the only other possibility is to see if you can gain some better access from under the car. I am also unclear if the tension adjuster is on the alternator (top front side of  engine), or on a pulley on the bottom rear which would appear to be something you have to deal with from underneath. The Hanes drawing show both possibilities for adjustment! On some of the transverse engine cars, there is a panel inside the right tire wheel well that is removable so you can access the front of the engine better. Let me know how you do it so I can pass it along to others.
Thanks,
Roland
