Chrysler Repair: thermastat, 1990 chrysler lebaron, chrysler lebaron

Question
where is the thermostat located on an 1990 chrysler lebaron

Answer
Hi Roy,
There are two possible engines, the V-6 and the inline 4.
On the V-6 it is inside a round metal housing which has a fat upper radiator hose entering it on the side, very close to the distributor on the top of the engine beteen the two cylinder heads. Just remove the two bolts on the housing, lift it off and there is the thermostat. Notice how it is oriented in the hole because there is a metal casting 'wall' that the 'bridge' on the underside of the thermostat has to avoid collision with when you put it back together.
The in-line 4 (with or without turbo) has a small box on the left side of the engine (the side that faces the front of the car) between the 3rd and 4th spark plugs and there is a round housing on its front, again with a radiator hose, and if you remove the two bolts that housing will come off and there is the thermostat, inside. Let me know if you have the 4 cyl engine because there is a special procedure you have to follow in order to avoid getting an air bubble in the system when you drain and refill the system. No special procedure is needed for the V-6 other than to drain down the radiator a few quarts before you take off the housing.
