Chrysler Repair: relay clicking?, haynes manual, fuse panel

Question
I have a 1998 Chrysler T/C. I went out to go to work I opened the door and I heard a clicking noise. It was from the fuse panel on the interior. I don't know which relay it is because it does not list it in the manual (go figure) It is the one furthest to the right inside the panel. anyway I went to the dealer got a new relay plugged it in same thing clicking. I then replaced the battery. This seemed to have solved the problem. Until I went out the next morning. The car started fine? I drove down the street forgot something at home pulled in the driveway shut the car off ran inside came back out DEAD! same clicking noise? I was able to jump start the car with the new battery took it for a ride as I was driving the panel lights (odometer/milage)where acting kind of funny flickering. Then the battery light came on. When I shut off the car tried to start the car again right away no luck dead again. So I have no cluse? I tried to pull the relay while the car was running to see what it went to but no luck? I looked at the fan? all the lights and obvious stuff.

Answer
Hi Donald,
Unfortunately I don't have the shop manual for the '98 van models so I can't tell you what that relay is for. Any chance that a dealer parts counter can tell you? I would also wonder about what is causing the battery to drain down so quickly. I do have a Haynes manual for '96-99 vans with some of the wiring diagrams but it doesn't identify the purpose of each relay. I believe a dealer parts manual will give you that identity if you go to a parts counter.
Do you have an ampmeter or a ohmmeter? If so it would be good to put it in a position between the negative cable battery clamp and the negative post of the battery to see how much current is being drawn when everything is turned off including the interior lights. It may be difficult to determine what the problem is without the electrical test meter and a full wiring diagram.
But see if you can find out from the parts dept. at the dealer what is the purpose of the relay that you replaced and let me know.
