Chrysler Repair: check engine light, power window 1997 chrysler sebirng, haynes manual, independent repair

Question
got car 3 weeks ago, car sat for 2months started perociaclly but not run on the road.  started fine but sputtered but once you accelerated went away on the way down sputters again but still runs and does not cut off.  Since the car sat for so long i hear that condensation builds up so i added one of those valvoline drygas mixture's.  check engine light comes on 2days later, waited a week took to autozone for free check, the obdII machine said link error and the guy said he can't check.  What should i do now?  Second, the passanger window does not go down of up with either switch (driver/passanger, the lock button works on both though)could that be the motor is bad?  I do not hear the motor at all.  Please help

Answer
Hi Hamchan,
On the check engine light: I would try an independent repair shop for another reading. It may cost $40, if they can do it, but at least you will either get a readout or you shouldn't have to pay. The Autozone reader may not have been set up properly or the battery voltage may have been too low to operate the code reader. Ask for the code number, what it means, what they suggest doing, and how much it will cost. Then write me back with the results and we'll check it against what the manual says.
On the window problem: You will need to remove the door panel to access the motor. Once you find the electrical connector you should jump two wires from the battery posts
to the door electric motor's plug-in contacts, after removing the plug. If nothing moves then reverse the wires,in which case the motor should move. If it doesn't then the motor is probably bad, but check to see if the window mechanism appears to be jammed tight. If it seems o.k. then the motor would need replacement. Unfortunately I don't have the Sebring shop manual about the power windows so I can't provide instruction on that task. But if you bought a Haynes manual or a Chrysler shop manual on EBay.com there will be a procedure for doing the window motor replacement.
