Chrysler Repair: serpentine belt, splashed water, wet weather

Question
my mothers was driving her car when her serpentine belt fell off, it didnt snap or break. why would that happen and do you know the sequence of putting it back on, no A/C pump. thank you

Answer
Hi Eugene,
If the belt was slightly loose or the devices that it was driving might not be aligned in the same plane, and if there was wet weather that splashed water into the engine compartment that could cause the belt to come off. Or one of the devices could seize and that too might provoke the belt to come off, so check to make sure that all of them driven by that belt are still spinning freely.
As to putting it back on, tell me which engine and year and model of the car? Then I can tell you how. If you don't see the engine size on the engine itself look on the sticker on the underside of the hood where that is listed in an upper corner of the sticker.
