Chrysler Repair: Motor mounts/ 1988 lebaron convertible, lebaron convertible, postal mail

Question
My lebaron has the motor mount shimmy. The other day I also noticed that if the wheel turns to the right a little I can feel the engine shake along with the shimmy. The upper motor mount is fine so I am thinking lower mounts. How difficult is it to do myself? I appreciate your help.

Answer
Hi Jim,
These mounts (left-right-front) are fairly easy to replace. You will need a floor jack to support the engine and transmission (with a wooden plank to spread the weight over the oil pan). Also it would be good to have the pages from the shop manual that show you the structure of the mounts and the torque specs. So send me your postal mail address and I'll xerox and mail them to you tomorrow or Monday. It would also be good to check the lengths of the two drive shafts which are affected by the transverse location of the engine. That too is adustable via the engine mounts and that positioning could also be part of your problem because you mention an issue when you turn the wheels. There are specs for those lengths I can also send you. Do you have the turbo or non-turbo engine?
