Chrysler Repair: 96 sebring fire, power steering pump, line leak

Question
my 96 sebring convt (4 cyl) has been smoking for a couple months near the power steering pump we think (car not overheating) but this morning my husband said it caught on fire under the hood. any ideas?

Answer
Hi Donna,
It is urgent that you find out why the fire is occuring because a full engine fire will total the car. The cost of repairing the wiring is just prohibitive. It could be oil leaking from the valve cover and falling on the exhaust manifold, or some other fluid (steering pump) similarly dripping on a hot exhaust pipe. Or it could be a fuel line leak where heat was evaporating the fuel (smoke) and is now catching fire. It will be easy for a mechanic to see where the burnig occured and what is leaking. But don't go on like this, because the car will be a loss very soon.
