Chrysler Repair: Chrysler Repair, chrysler line, blown fuse

Question
The CD & Radio in my 2001 Sebring Convertible has lost power. I have checked the fuses and they are okay. The lights on the bass and treble are blinking. Is there another fuse behind the radio? If not, what else could be the problem?

Answer
Hi David,
Unfortunately I don't have wiring diagrams for the Sebring model. But similar vehicles in the Chrysler line have a second location for fuses, one of which may be blown. That is the power distribution center, an oblong black box located under the hood near the battery. Inside that box are a number of fuses that feed power to the fuse box under the dash, so while the fuse box fuses could check out the socket for the fuse may not be getting any power because of a blown fuse in the power distribution center. So take a look for that box and check all the fuses therein. You could also check each of the fuse sockets under the dash that are labelled as for the radio/cd and check whether there is one pin or the other of each of those sockets that has 12V present on it when you have the ignition in the run position. If you find a fuse socket with 12V present, that would verify that although the fuse was good it wasn't being powered due to a blown fuse in the power distribution center. Once you have verified that power is indeed getting to the underdash fuses, if the radio/cd still doesn't operate it suggests a problem in the unit itself. Usually there are no other fuses than those in the power center and the fuse block under the dash. It is possible that if you have a high-end system with a separate amp in the trunk there could be a fuse on that amp that has blown. Otherwise I don't believe there is a fuse behind the unit in the dash.
