Chrysler Repair: rough drive, poor gas mileage, plymouth neon

Question
I need advice on which part I should try to change first.98 plymouth neon DOHC 16 valve 2.0L.It idles rough, poor acceleration, loud exhaust sound, and the radio-when driving-has an electrical interference fluttering sound.I'm a also getting poor gas mileage. I'm thinking of changing the MAP sensor or EGR device. Which one should i try first?

Answer
Hi Andre,
The fact that you are getting some radio interference suggests that the ignition system may be involved in the poor function. So I would not expect that the MAP or egr will solve it. I lean toward getting a code readout done or buy a code reader so that you can take advantage of the inboard diagnostic capability. Once you have the codes write back and we'll try to point you toward what might be the cause. I have the troubleshooting manual for the 2.0L SOHC, but I am not sure whether that is going to have similar engine control features as your DOHC.
