Chrysler Repair: hood release, jeep cherokee, jeep dealer

Question
I have a 93 jeep cherokee, you pullthe hood release and it seems to have no tension.  I took grill off and can not get to any cable the radiator and the I guess cooler for the air is there, but can see no cable .  How do I get in the hood.  My husband wants to use a screw driver and try to pry it up .  I can only imagine what the hood will look like, help!

Answer
Hi Cherylyn,

In almost every vehicle I have known, there is an alternative way to release the hood latck if the cable mechanism fails. Usually you get under the front of the vehicle and look up in the space between the engine and the radiator where you can see the underside of the hood and the latching mechanism and then reach up with a tool that allows you to grasp the cable and pull it to the driver's side or lever the latch mechanism to release it with doing no damage at all. If your husband can't see how to do this, go to a body shop or a Jeep dealer and they will do it so that no expensive damabe to the hood is done with a screwdriver approach.
